IMS Centralized Services (ICS)

Mavenir has developed an elegant architecture for smooth and cost effective evolution of mobile networks to take advantage of emerging IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) services and applications by expanding them to the existing 2G/3G mobile users.

Mavenir’s application is synchronized with the mid- and long-term network evolution being driven by 3GPP IMS, providing support for IMS Centralized Services (ICS) to provide value-added capabilities for the mobile operator. Mavenir is leading this work within the 3GPP SA2 working group for Release 8 to define the architecture, which is expected to be completed in 2008.

The applications enabled by Mavenir’s ICS solution can empower operators to delivery next generation services across any device and network optimization to offer Femto Zone services.

Solution components:

CS-AGW (includes UMA)

The Circuit Switched Access GateWay (CS-AGW) is the main functional element of the ICS solution.  It represents Mavenir’s innovation and contribution towards a 3GPP standards based deployment. 

Mavenir’s solution allows UMA operators to transition their traffic from MSC to IMS without requiring any changes to the mobile device.

The CS-AGW provides service adaption across IMS and CS access domain call control for registration, service session connection for basic voice, messaging and supplementary services and mobility.  It connects to any standard industry I/S-CSCF of the IMS core with any open interface BSC of a mobile access network using the standard A, Iu or IOS (A1 or A1p) interfaces.

Domain Manager

The Domain Manager functionality enables seamless delivery of services across IMS and 2G/3G CS domains.  The key functions of the Domain Manager are HLR-HSS mapping for authentication, registration & service profile synchronization and for inter-working IMS core with 2G/3G CS networks for incoming and outgoing roaming and mobility (handover), coupled with VCC/SCC Mobility server.

Mobility Server

The Mavenir Mobility Server supports the 3GPP Release 7 Voice Call Continuity and supports an optimized (patent pending) approach to VCC that reduces idle time during Inter-technology handoff (WiFi <-> GSM ). The VCC function provides PS-CS Mobility for Voice functions. The VCC AS capability will evolve into the SCC AS capability as described above to additionally support CS-PS and PS-PS functionality with service continuity across the transfers.
